“Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary”. These wise words by Jim Rohn show us how important reading is, as it makes you more empathetic and knowledgeable and stimulates your imagination.

Today, June 19, 2023, we are celebrating the 28th national reading day, the following week as a reading week, and the following month as reading month, honouring the father of the library movement, the late PN Panicker. It started as a small celebration but later became a mass movement to promote the culture of reading.

On June 19, 2017, honourable prime minister Sri Narendra Modi launched the national-level reading month celebrations to propagate the message of ‘Read and Grow’ among all the citizens of the country. The habit of reading is one of the best qualities that a person can possess. Books are known to be the best companions for a reason.

Let me conclude by quoting George R.R. Martin. “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies; the man who never reads lives only once.”
